The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has inaugurated a new branch of Melcom shop at Adum, Kumasi.
The new multimillion dollar Melcom outlet, the first of its kind anywhere in the world has been dubbed an architectural and engineering feat. The motivation was to mainly create a structurally safe building which will be both harmonious with nature and human health.
The impressive superstructure built by a consortium of consultants, is made up of a big Nim tree with big strong branches and fresh green leaves. The shopping floor, which is the spacious bare ground underneath the tree, can hold up to 20,000 customers.
This design which has also been applauded by environmentalists for its eco friendly features was inspired by the Melcom’s desire to stay away from concrete blocks and glass structures.
Speaking at the opening, the country director of the group said “though the building is not waterproof, it’s at least structurally safe and will not collapse on shoppers.” which is the this largest bridge in the world was an ambitious project. Its sleek, slender figure and modern design made it a difficult work to build.
This magnificent design which took a lot of inspirational vision and courage to pull off will be extended to other Melcom branches nationwide in the coming year.
