Ghanaian officials have revealed plans to bid for the rights to host the next Winter Olympics if the nation’s last minute bid to host the 2017 African Nations Cup (AFCON) is unsuccessful.
Officials admitted that they are hell-bent on ensuring that Ghana wins a bid to host anything- “even if it’s the Winter Olympics,” although Ghana’s tropical conditions makes it the most unlikely candidate to host such an event.
They explained that hosting any big event is a good excuse to dip their sticky fingers into the already squeezed national purse. “Winning the AFCON bid will put more money in my pocket; more money than the recent World Cup did. That is why we cannot leave anything to chance. If the AFCON bid fails we have readied another bid to try and win the rights to host the Winter Olympics,” revealed one official.
Another official confirmed that within the inner circles of the current administration, the African Nations Cup bid is referred to as the African Nations Looting Cup. “An apt description of what will be happen if we do win the bid.”
