Following calls by several think tanks for the nation’s universities to provide programmes that will support and aid the growth of new and budding sectors of the economy, three of the top universities in the country have announced they will soon be offering a BA degree course in Sakawa.
This degree programme will draw on the combined expertise of the Department of Psychology and the Department of Computer Science to provide students with a unique skill set that is highly prized in the industry. It will aim at producing bold and ambitious graduates to help push the boundaries of the sakawa industry into China and other parts of Asia.
The course, which will be available for entry in July 2014, will be a 3 year full time programme. And to maximise career prospects in the industry, graduates will have a range of opportunities during the course to undertake work experience programs with certain recognised internet cafés.
The Ministry of Education has reportedly commended the universities for taking such a bold step and has assured them of the government’s full support. The Ministry also implored the universities to consider introducing a part time version of this course for those who are already in the sakawa business but desire to have a degree to boost their reputation within the industry.
