Mugabe is sending observer mission to ensure US election is ‘free and fair’

Zimbabwe’s long serving leader, Robert Mugabe says he will send an observer mission to monitor the US presidential elections “in order to ensure a free and fair election.”

A statement from Harare said “the Zimbabwean delegation will teach Americans about democracy and free and fair elections,” adding that President Mugabe, the 92 year old leader who has been in charge of the southern African nation since 1987 deems it “his duty to help the United States run a free and fair election.”

Mugabe’s announcement comes just days after Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, repeated claims of attempts by his opponent to rig the November 8 presidential election.

Harare also issued a warning to the United States that it “risked being isolated and ostracized by Zimbabwe if it fails to promote the rule of the law and democracy.”
